What is a Statement of Facts?

A Statement of Facts (SOF) is the official time log of a ship’s port call. It records arrival, NOR, pilot on board, first line, commencement of cargo, stoppages, completion and departure. Charterers and owners use the SOF to calculate laytime, demurrage and despatch. Even a 15-minute error can change the commercial result, so times must be written clearly in local time.

How this timer helps

Enter the start and end of any event — rain stoppage, crane breakdown, shifting, bunkering or cargo work. The calculator gives days, hours and minutes plus a decimal hour figure that can be copied into a laytime spreadsheet. Use one calculation per SOF line. If clocks change or the port uses a different time zone, convert both times to the same zone before entering them.

Who should use it

This tool is for masters, chief officers, agents and commercial operators preparing or checking an SOF. It does not replace the signed SOF document. Always cross-check times with the deck log, port log and terminal records before the SOF is signed.
