What PSC looks at
Port State Control checks that the ship matches its certificates and that the crew can actually operate the safety equipment. Inspectors often start with documents, then walk the deck and engine room, then ask a rating to show a fire flap or a lifeboat release. A tidy file and a crew that knows the muster list prevent most easy deficiencies.
How to use this page
Tick items as you confirm them on board. This is a generic reminder. Each MOU has its own focus areas and the inspector may look at anything in the conventions. Do not hide defects. Report them and have a plan. This page is not legal advice and does not guarantee a clean inspection.
Who should use it
Useful for the Master and chief officer the day before arrival. Company PSC checklists still come first.
