Garbage on board
MARPOL Annex V controls garbage. Plastics are not discharged to the sea. Food waste and some other categories have distance and comminuting rules. Most ships keep garbage on board until a reception facility is available. The Garbage Record Book and Garbage Management Plan must match what is actually in the store.
How this calculator works
Days left = Remaining capacity ÷ Daily generation. If days to next port are entered, the tool says whether storage looks enough. This is only a volume estimate. Compacting, incineration (where allowed) and special cargo dunnage change the real figure. Never discharge garbage except as Annex V and the Garbage Management Plan allow.
Who should use it
Useful for the environmental officer planning the next port landing. Official entries stay in the Garbage Record Book.
