What is EEXI?

EEXI is the Energy Efficiency Existing Ship Index under IMO MARPOL Annex VI. It is a design index for existing ships. The official figure is calculated with IMO guidelines and approved by class. This page is only a simplified estimate so you can see how power, fuel consumption, capacity and speed affect the index.

How this estimator works

Attained EEXI โ‰ˆ (PME ร— SFC ร— 3.114) รท (Capacity ร— Vref). Carbon factor 3.114 is for HFO. Example: 9800 kW, 175 g/kWh, 52000 DWT, 14.2 kn gives about 7.23. Official calculations include extra correction factors, so the class booklet will not match this number exactly.

Who should use it

Useful for officers who want a first feel of the formula. For surveys and SEEMP, use only the approved EEXI technical file.
