Formula Used
Daily Oil (kg) = Engine Power (kW) × Specific Feed Rate (g/kWh) × Running Hours ÷ 1000
Litres = kg ÷ Oil Density
Typical Values
- Specific Feed Rate usually ranges from 0.6 to 1.2 g/kWh depending on engine and fuel sulphur
- Cylinder oil density is typically around 0.90 – 0.92 kg/litre
Who is this for?
Useful for Chief Engineers and engine officers monitoring cylinder oil consumption on slow-speed 2-stroke main engines.
Note
Always cross-check with the engine maker’s recommended feed rate and actual consumption records.
