Why compare bunker ports?

Bunker fuel is often the largest voyage cost after hire. A cheaper posted price at a nearby port is not always the better deal. Extra steaming, extra time, barging charges, quality risk and deviation cost can wipe out the saving. This calculator compares two ports on a like-for-like basis: same quantity, two unit prices, plus any extra cost needed to reach the second port.

How the calculation works

Port A total = Quantity Γ— Price A. Port B total = Quantity Γ— Price B + Extra Cost to reach Port B. Extra cost can include extra bunker burned on the deviation, extra hire days, port dues and barge fees. The tool then shows which option is cheaper and by how much. Use the latest quoted price for the same grade (VLSFO, HSFO or MGO) and the same density or unit (metric tonne).

Who should use it

Chief engineers, masters and commercial operators can use this before placing a bunker stem. It is a planning estimate only. Final cost depends on actual delivered quantity, density, quality and invoice terms. Always confirm with the bunker supplier and the owner’s commercial desk.
